Portland Metro will soon welcome its newest neighborhood; 500 acres of land, which was brought into the Urban Growth Boundary in 2011 and 2012, will soon be home to 6,500 people.
The area runs along the western edge of the City of Tigard and will be called River Terrace. The city expects roughly 2,500 new and diverse housing units to be built over the next 20 years. They have already approved subdivision applications, containing more than 800 homes by various developers. Plans include a strong mix of Apartments, condos, town homes and single family homes as well as neighborhood scale businesses. Construction can already be seen, where one development project has already started and another is scheduled to start this coming summer.
This news has also spurred development in downtown Tigard, where plans for a 157 unit apartment complex along the Fanno Creek Trail (only a ten minute walk to Main St) have started to be written up. According to City Officials, Tigard has never received such a large private investment ($30M) and they hope its success will prompt more in the future.
